The dreaded knee collapse…

Have you ever hear John yelling at you to drive your knees out and wondered what he was talking about? Chances are that you looking like the picture here. We see this often in the gym, a lot with the ladies but also with the guys. It can happen any time the knee flexes; in the dip and drive of a push press, when you jump or land on a box, during a particularly heavy squat or when we run. The effects of letting your knees collapsing in like this have the potential to be catastrophic if gone unchecked. ACL tears live right there, that is worst case, but lots of other knee problems happen quite often. Best case is that you are moving less efficiently than you could be. Which means you are going slower than you could be. Chances are that you will also develop more soreness in your calves and knees from this type of situation. It typically stems from weakness in the hips and can be solved by developing the adductors, abductors and rotators. Any guesses on how we can make those things stronger? That’s right, by squatting, jumping, dipping and driving whilst pushing those knees out, thus making us more efficient and safer… now, KNEES OUT!
