John & I are privileged to have known Kevin for quite some time and so our hearts are heavy with the challenges that he faces in the days, weeks, and yes, years to come. He is a fighter though and we have faith in him. To echo and paraphrase a paraphrase (http://gawkish.wordpress.com/2014/01/14/crossfit-back-pain-and-severed-spine-injury/), “Kevin is one of a handful of people I know that is capable of taking a terrible situation like this and making it something inspirational and good.” Whatever you can give… we know that January can be a financially challenging time for many families, but we ask you to help us stand with our sisters & brothers from CrossFit Unbroken and around the world and support our friend as he fights, not for his life, but for a chance to keep living the life he has chosen. You can contribute through Fundly or you can put a check in the envelope we have at the gym (please write it to “Kevin Ogar”) and we will pass it on.
Kevin’s New Years gift to us is to cherish each day, to be grateful each day, but also to live in it. Perhaps you recall this quote we have on the wall at the gym. It is the foundation for what we are a CrossFit Agoge. -KB
“This is the true joy in life — being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one… being a force of nature instead of a feverish selfish clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake.
Life is no ‘brief candle’ to me. It is sort of a splendid torch which I have a hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it over to future generations.”
